NORCROSS — Brookwood head football coach Chad Nighbert said senior running back Brayden Tyson can beat defenders in multiple ways.

“Brayden’s dynamic,” Nighbert said. “He’s hard to stop. He can run by you. He can run through you. He can run around you.”

Tyson did a little bit of all that and then some on Friday as the Broncos cruised to a 57-23 road win over Region 7-AAAAAAA foe Norcross. Tyson amassed 185 yards and two touchdowns on just 13 carries.

“It’s a testament to our offensive line as well,” Nighbert said. “There were some big holes that made it easy to run through.”

Brookwood (6-0, 2-0 region) had five different rushers carry the ball to a total of 328 yards on the ground.

Meanwhile, quarterback Gary Chatman was an efficient 9 of 13 for 127 yards and two touchdowns.

Efficient was a good way to describe the Broncos’ offense against the Blue Devils (2-3, 0-1). The Broncos scored 36 points in the first half on just 23 plays and ran just 51 plays for the game, averaging more than a point per play on the night.

The Blue Devils kept the Broncos off the field through much of the game. In the second quarter, Norcross had a 17-play, 80-yard touchdown drive that ended in an 18-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tommie Traylor to receiver Drew Noelsaint and consumed nearly six minutes. That cut the lead to 29-9.

The Broncos got the ball back with just one minute on the clock, but a 46-yard kick return gave them the ball at the Norcross 32. Chatman scrambled three times until he found the end zone from 12 yards out, erasing any notion of a comeback. He finished with 42 rushing yards and two scores on the ground.

Brookwood scored seven touchdowns out of their nine possessions.

“We were playing fast, and that gave them some problems where they couldn’t keep up with us. Our backs did a really good job,” Nighbert said. “When they tried to take the run away, going to a five-man front with two linebackers, we started throwing the ball a little bit and got a couple of receiving touchdowns.
