Norcross’ football team is riding the momentum of last week’s nice victory into Friday’s home game, its first in nearly a month at Keith G. Maloof Field.


The Blue Devils last played at home in a season-opening win over Mill Creek, which was followed by a disappointing loss at West Forsyth and a bye. They responded with a 28-10 victory over North Atlanta last Friday at Henderson Stadium.

The defense played well in shutting down North Atlanta thanks to big games from Eric Pitts III (12 tackles, one for loss, QB hurry, two pass breakups, fumble recovery for touchdown), Canon Huff (12 tackles, two for losses, caused fumble, pass breakup), Tommie Traylor (six tackles, fumble recovery for TD) and Marcus Austin (six tackles, three for losses, caused fumble).


Norcross’ offense was paced by the ground game — Tyler Ruffin carried 22 times for 159 yards and a TD and quarterback Luqman Baig rushed 12 times for 135 yards and a score. Baig also was 9-for-13 passing for 65 yards.


Esimi Okosun (87 percent blocking grade, two knockdown blocks) and Davis Marschke (two catches for 21 yards, 84 percent blocking grade, three knockdown blocks) also stood out.

Up next for the Blue Devils is a home game against North Forsyth, which opened the season with losses to Jackson County and Archer. The Raiders found themselves in the last two games, comfortable wins over Dacula (56-14) and Campbell (29-0).
