The Blue Devils entered the fourth quarter with a 16-7 deficit before storming back to win the Region 7-AAAAAA football game on Burks’ game-winning run.
“That touchdown just felt good, man, just sealed the game,” Burks said. “That’s just what we needed to win.”
Norcross improves to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the region. Parkview falls to 2-5 and 1-3.
Parkview’s Sterling Dixon scored a touchdown off a 9-yard pass from Greg Hart after an impressive drive from the Panthers to make it 7-0. Parkview’s offensive line broke down Norcross’ line, allowing Zandon Mullins and Dixon to carry the ball through the middle of the Blue Devils’ defense.
Burks scored within the first 30 seconds of the second quarter after Miles Davis recovered a fumbled punt at Parkview’s 1-yard line to tie the game 7-7.
Parkview’s Jonathan Moura broke the tie with a 40-yard field goal to put the Panthers up 10-7. Moura connected on a 43-yard field goal with two seconds left in the half to put the Panthers up 13-7.
“The first half, the way our defense was playing and our offense, was out of sync a little bit,” said Norcross head coach Corey Richardson. “I knew that once we got into halftime, our offensive coaches would make the adjustments going into the second half.”
With 30 seconds left in the third quarter, Moura scored on another 43-yard field goal to make the score 16-7.
Norcross’ Chase Huff started the fourth quarter with a touchdown on a 25-yard pass from P.J. Wolfe to make it 16-14. Burks scored on a 4-yard touchdown run two minutes later, followed by a two-point conversion from Drew Noelsaint, putting Norcross ahead 22-16.
Parkview came close to scoring, but the Blue Devils’ defense held the Panthers at the Norcross 11-yard line to end the game with an epic 22-16 comeback.
