An important Region 7-AAAAAA football matchup comes early in the schedule when Peachtree Ridge travels to Norcross on Friday for a game featuring two teams with region title aspirations.
The two teams played a thriller last season with Norcross winning 27-26 on a touchdown pass with 52 seconds left.
Peachtree Ridge enters with the momentum of a three-game winning streak after a disappointing performance in an opening loss to Roswell. Its defense has posted back-to-back shutouts of Mountain View and Meadowcreek, and the unit has allowed only six points in the current winning streak.
Elijah Thompson (five tackles, four for losses, 1 1/2 sacks, two QB pressures), Cam Tanksley (four tackles, two for losses, one QB pressure) and Elijah Bell (three tackles, one pass breakup, one fumble recovery) were the unit’s leaders last week in the win over Meadowcreek.
In last Friday’s win, quarterback Rayshaun Parks stayed hot, completing 13 of 20 passes for 255 yards and five touchdowns. He also rushes four times for 36 yards and a TD. Sedric Addison (10 rushes, 84 yards, two TDs), Braxton Palmer (four catches, 79 yards, TD) and Sincere Stevens (9 rushes, 49 yards, TD) also had big nights.
Norcross rebounded from its first loss — a mistake-plagued 24-21 loss to Walton — for a win over Duluth in last week’s region opener. Eric Pitts III (12 tackles, three for losses, sack, fumble recovery, pass breakup), Miles Davis (11 tackles, one for loss, one sack, one caused fumble), Jayden Clermont (nine tackles, one interception, one pass breakup), Rah’ja Wisdom (10 tackles, one for loss, one QB hurry), Antoine Lewis (10 tackles, one for loss) and Joshua Burks (seven tackles, one for loss) led the Blue Devils’ defense last Friday.
Burks also rushed 14 times for 100 yards and two TDs on offense, and Julian Wisely (84 percent blocking grade, three pancake blocks) played well up front.
Norcross’ Elijah Frey continues to be a force on special teams. He converted 47- and 39-yard field goals and was 3-for-3 on PATs in... Click here to read full article
