Former Norcross Star Lorenzo Carter Retires from NFL

Ahead of what would have been his eighth NFL season, former Norcross star Lorenzo Carter is calling it a career.

The 29-year-old edge rusher signed a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans in March after playing previously with the Atlanta Falcons (2022-24) and the New York Giants (2018-21), but he informed team officials Monday that he planned to retire after going through the Titans’ OTAs and mini-camp. He will be placed on the NFL’s Reserve/Retired List.

“(Carter) notified us (Monday) that he will be retiring, so we wish him well,” Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said on tennesseetitans.com.


Carter was a third-round draft pick of the Giants in 2018, and played in 96 career games with 62 starts. He made 11 starts lsat season for the Falcons.

He finishes his NFL career with 278 tackles (35 for losses), 21 1/2 sacks, 18 passes defensed, five forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.

Prior to the NFL, Carter played in 54 games (26 starts) with the Georgia Bulldogs and totaled 166 tackles, 14 sacks, six forced fumbles and six fumble recoveries.

He was a two-sport standout at Norcross, and played a starring role on state championship football teams his final two seasons in 2012 and 2013 — he totaled 261 tackles and 23 sacks over those two years. He also started and was a key player on the Blue Devils’ perennial powerhouse basketball teams.
